Our integrative psychiatry services offer a compassionate and holistic approach, promoting mental wellness and balance for adults and adolescents in and around Denver.
Traditional psychiatry often focuses solely on prescribing medications to manage symptoms. But for many patients, this limited approach fails to provide full relief.
Integrative psychiatry takes a more holistic view of patients, looking at mind and body as interconnected systems that must be treated together. After all, something like depression could be caused by many different underlying factors, from the stress of a toxic relationship or work environment to a vitamin deficiency or an untreated illness. Integrative medicine takes all of these factors into account by looking at your mental, physical, emotional, and even spiritual health together.
By combining traditional psychiatry like medication management with evidence-based complementary and alternative therapies, integrative and holistic gives you the most comprehensive and effective care possible.
If you’ve tried conventional psychiatry alone without the relief you hoped for, integrative psychiatry may just be the more holistic, patient-centered approach you’ve been searching for.
Our Approach
At Ballen Medical & Wellness, we take an integrative approach to mental health that thoughtfully combines the best of traditional psychiatry with evidence-based holistic treatment options, natural therapies, and lifestyle interventions.
Similar to functional medicine, we go beyond just symptom relief and focus on the underlying root causes of your depression, anxiety, trauma, or other mental health condition to bring you long-lasting relief and optimal well-being.
Our team is fully trained in conventional methodologies like prescription medications and psychotherapy. However, we’re also well-versed in the latest evidence-based holistic and complementary modalities, including ketamine-assisted therapy.
This multi-modal approach addresses mental health from different yet complementary angles. We believe this leads to optimal mental wellness and healing, even in challenging cases like co-occurring diagnoses.
Just as importantly, however, we can make sure that your treatment plan is aligned with your preferences and values. If you’d like to focus on medication management and talk therapy, we can. And if you’d like to reduce or eliminate the need for psychiatric medication, we can tailor your plan for that as well.
At Ballen Medical & Wellness, we use integrative mental health to help alleviate a wide variety of conditions
— including co-occurring diagnoses.

Traditionally, depression has been linked to low levels of monoamine chemicals like serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine. Conventional antidepressants aim to increase these neurotransmitters.
However, scientists now realize depression is far more complex, involving many other chemicals and systems like glutamate, GABA and BDNF. This is one of many reasons why antidepressants aren’t effective for everyone.
At Ballen Medical & Wellness, we take a more holistic view of depression that looks at the whole mind and body connection. We screen for nutrient deficiencies, hormone imbalances, inflammation, GI issues and other root causes that may be contributing.
Our team will conduct a thorough initial assessment and evaluation by discussing your medical history, current symptoms, and any previous treatments or therapies you may have tried. We believe in a patient-centered approach, which means we value your input and actively involve you in the decision-making process.
Some of the topics we may cover during the initial consult include:
Based on your evaluation, we’ll explain the different treatment options available and discuss the potential benefits and considerations of each. This is a collaborative process — we’ll work with you to find the approach that best aligns with your preferences and treatment goals.
Our goal is to get to the root causes and find the optimal combination of therapies tailored to your needs. Whether you choose a more traditional path or a more holistic one, we’ll make sure we’re not just treating your symptoms, but also addressing any underlying root causes.
Follow-up visits may be recommended to monitor your progress and provide ongoing support. Based on your feedback, we’ll also make any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan. Our team will be there for you every step of the way to ensure your optimal well-being and long-term success.
We pride ourselves on helping you truly get better. Many of our patients achieve longterm success without needing to necessarily see us longterm. As much as we like to have you at our clinic, our promise to you is we’ll work as hard as we can to reduce your need for us.
Our team is passionate about helping you feel your best and reach your full potential, whether that means working through a crisis, deepening your understanding of yourself, or managing mood disorders like depression and anxiety.
If you’re struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, or other mental health conditions, integrative psychiatry be the answer — especially if you’ve had difficulty finding relief with standard treatment or wish to find holistic solutions that complement or replace psychiatric medications.
By addressing the root causes – not just symptoms – and customizing care to your unique needs and preferences, our compassionate integrative psychiatry and wellness team can help you achieve lasting relief and emotional well-being.
